The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD – "National People's Party") is an Indian political gathering, situated in the northern condition of Bihar. The gathering was established in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav.
The mass base of the gathering has generally been Yadavs and Muslims, two vast and moderately politically dynamic fragments of Bihar's populace. In 2008, RJD got the status of perceived national level gathering taking after its execution in north-eastern states. RJD was derecognised as a national gathering on 30 July 2010.
On 5 July 1997, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Kanti Singh alongside seventeen Lok Sabha MPs and eight Rajya Sabha MPs alongside supporters assembled at New Delhi framed the new political gathering, Rashtriya Janata Dal. It was framed as breakaway of Janata Dal. Lalu Prasad was chosen as the main leader of RJD. It is an inside left gathering.
In the March 1998 national decisions, RJD won 17 Lok Sabha seats from Bihar yet neglected to make huge progress in some other state. Soon thereafter, the gathering shaped an organization together with Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party as a hostile to Bharatiya Janata Party common coalition however the coalition flopped in earning any far reaching support
