The Communist Party of Nepal , otherwise called CPN–UML and CPN (UML), is one of the two biggest political gatherings and the biggest comrade party in Nepal. It was made on January 6, 1991 through the unification of the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist–Leninist). CPN (UML) was a result of the Jana Andolan (People's Movement) uprising where communists, together with the Nepali Congress, assumed a noteworthy part to reestablish vote based system in Nepal.

The fifth party congress (and the first after the unification, the four initially being of the first Communist Party of Nepal) was held in Kathmandu in January 1993. Individuals' Multiparty Democracy was received as the gathering program. Madan Bhandari was chosen General Secretary and Man Mohan Adhikari was chosen Chairman. Later that year Bhandari passed on in a vehicle episode at Dashdhunga in Chitwan. After Bhandari's demise, Madhav Kumar Nepal was chosen General Secretary, and he stayed in post until 2008.In December 1994, CPN (UML) framed a minority government, which kept going nine months. Man Mohan Adhikari was chosen Prime Minister and Madhav Kumar Nepal progressed toward becoming Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 1997, CPN (UML) partaken in a non-Nepali Congress government, with a group of the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party and the Nepal Sadbhavana Party, and held the Deputy Prime Ministership.

In March 1998, CPN (UML) endured an extreme part over the Mahakali Treaty with India. Those restricting the arrangement split away and shaped Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist–Leninist) driven by Bam Dev Gautam. The vertical split made much damage the gathering; in the 1999 parliamentary race, CPN (UML) simply got 31.61% of the votes while the opponent group just secured 5% of aggregate votes.
